44th Annual Lakewood Home Festival Announces Special 2020 Street-View Edition Home Tour, Virtual Auction, and Lakewood Love Giving Campaign! Save the date for November 13-15, 2020.
DALLAS – October 1, 2020 –
For the past 43 years, the Lakewood Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association (LECPTA) has hosted the annual Lakewood Home Festival weekend. This beloved community-wide event traditionally features a tour of six treasured Lakewood homes, as well as a themed auction party. The Festival raises funds for three local public schools: Lakewood Elementary School, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Attended by thousands of patrons annually, the Lakewood Home Festival has raised millions of dollars for local schools since 1976, and the funds directly benefit students through the purchase of school materials, computers, and enrichment programs.
This year presented its challenges due to COVID-19, and the LECPTA had to pivot in many ways to continue delivering on its commitment to raise funds for the Woodrow Wilson feeder pattern. The following changes ensure that our neighborhood’s long-standing tradition of generosity to our local schools is upheld – while keeping the community safe.
The 2020 Lakewood Home Festival weekend will kick off with the “Lakewood Live” virtual auction party on Friday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by Dave Perry-Miller, the event will bring the “Saturday Night Live” stage into guests’ living rooms with pre-recorded skits, special musical performances, and both live and silent auctions. Guests are encouraged to don their SNL-inspired costumes and party-in-place! To commemorate this special edition of the beloved community event, Lakewood Live T-shirts and Party Packs are available for purchase here. Party Packs are premium gift baskets filled with high-end items such as a DIY cocktail kit, cups, beverage napkins, cool merch, and a sweet treat for the kids. Several of these Party Packs will also include Golden Ticket “bonus prizes” sure to instantly turn your Friday into Fri-Yay.
After the virtual auction party, explore this year’s homes from the comfort of your car, golf cart, bike, or own two feet. The 44th Annual Lakewood Home Tour will proceed as a street-view only event on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. This years’ tour home addresses will be kept under wraps until a few days before the big weekend, but follow @LakewoodHomeFestival on social media to see interior photo teasers this month. We are excited to share our one revealed home: 6907 Lakewood Boulevard, which sits at the cross-streets of Lakewood Boulevard and Lakeshore Boulevard. While it has received some updates over the years, this iconic home still boasts many of its original features, including the front yard fountain, an interior fountain, and a front door carved into the actual structure of the home. Visit www.lakewoodhomefestival.com for more information.
The official 2020 Home Tour Guidebook is available to pre-order now at http://bit.ly/HomeTourGuidebook for $20 and is the only way to see interior photographs by Jenifer McNeil Baker and learn the addresses of the six amazing homes. Besides having more pictures than ever, the guidebook will also have interactive activities for the littlest street-view tour attendees. They will be available to pick up (if pre-ordered) or purchase at Lakewood Elementary on Saturday, November 14 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. All proceeds go to our schools in lieu of home tour ticket sales.
Additionally, we are asking partygoers, street-view tourers and the community at large to show their Lakewood Love and make a donation to the 2020 Home Festival giving campaign. Donors will receive entry into the Home Festival Glamping raffle package, which includes Yeti items, two cabin rentals and a golf cart rental at Wind Point Park, a campground one-hour east of Dallas. Visit http://bit.ly/LakewoodLove to make your Lakewood Love donation today. Now, more than ever, our local public schools need support, and Lakewood Love is the primary fundraiser for the 2020 Home Festival.
“It was such a tough decision on whether or not to continue with the Home Festival this year,” Jill Meyer, President of the LECPTA, explains. “Back in June when we were deciding, so much was up in the air around the coronavirus and what the fall would look like, and other events were being cancelled left and right. We felt strongly that we had to keep our community safe, but we also knew how much this event and its traditions means to Lakewood. In the end, we think we came to a great solution to allow the event to proceed but in a unique, different way.”
The LECPTA is grateful for all of its 2020 Home Festival sponsors: Comerica Bank (Home Festival Presenting Sponsor), Lawyers Title, Republic Title Lakewood, Advocate Media, Alamo Pressure Pumping, Babybliss miniME, Burns Poulsen, Cornerstone Home Lending, Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, David Bush Realtors, Farris McMahon Group, IberiaBank Mortgage, JacksonSells, Jill & Mark Meyer, Kate Walters Real Estate, Nancy Johnson Group, Patten Custom Homes, Sewell Automotive Companies, Skylar Champion Group, The Heather Guild Group, Veritex Community Bank, Jay Leftwich, DDS, Saville Dodgen + Company, PLLC, The Hargrave Group, Vanderbrook Family Dentistry, and Juliette Fowler Communities.
